Liverpool & Man Utd Face Battle To Sign £51m Midfielder
Liverpool and Man Utd are facing a real battle in the race to sign a £51 million rated international midfielder this summer. Find out all the details here
The summer transfer window is now open for business so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool and Man Utd could miss out on Joao Mario….
Liverpool and Manchester United face a real battle in the race to sign Joao Mario with Inter Milan reportedly closing-in on a £51m deal to sign the Sporting Lisbon midfielder, according to the Mirror.
Mario has developed in to one of the best midfielders in Portugal since breaking in to the Sporting Lisbon first team in 2014 and chipped in with 6 goals and 11 assists to help them push Benfica all the way in the Primeira Liga title race last season.
The midfielder continued that form in to this summers European Championships as Mario started six games for Portugal as they went on to win Euro 2016 with a shock 1-0 victory over hosts France on Sunday night.
Mario’s potential has caught the eye of teams in the Premier League as the Mirror claim that Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs who’ve shown a keen interest in luring him to England this summer.
Jurgen Klopp has already brought in four new signings but the German coach is expected to sign another midfielder with the likes of Joe Allen and Jordan Ibe tipped to leave and Mario is seemingly on the Liverpool bosses radar.
New United boss Jose Mourinho has also been extremely active so far this summer and the Portuguese coach is also understood to be hot on the trail of Mario as he looks to strengthen his midfield options at Old Trafford.
However, it looks as though the north-west rivals face stiff competition to land the 23-year-old as the Mirror are citing reports coming out of Italy that claim Inter Milan are closing-in on a deal to sign the midfielder.
The newspaper suggests that Inter are in advanced talks with Lisbon and are set to trigger the £51m release clause in Mario’s contract – something that Liverpool and United have so far refused to do.

We’ll have to wait and see if the English duo will now revise their plans following Inter’s move but £51m is likely to be too expensive for Liverpool while I don’t see United pursuing any deal for Mario while they remain in the hunt for Paul Pogba, so it looks like they could miss out on the Portuguese international.
