The summer transfer window is now open for business so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with two Newcastle stars…..
Liverpool are eyeing Newcastle United midfield duo Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum as Jurgen Klopp looks to further strengthen his squad this summer, according to the Mirror.
Klopp has already brought in four new players this summer as he tries to put his own stamp on the Liverpool squad following his arrival back in October but the German coach is expected to make further additions to his midfield options over the coming weeks.
With the futures of Joe Allen and Lucas Leiva uncertain and attacker Jordon Ibe set to join Bournemouth, the Reds are in the market for midfield reinforcements and the Mirror claim that Sissoko and Wijnaldum are on Klopp’s radar.
Sissoko has just seen his stock rise following some impressive displays at Euro 2016 with the Express reporting last week that Tottenham are among the clubs showing a keen interest in signing the French international.
Mauricio Pochettino is also on the look out for an attacking midfielder ahead of the north Londoners assault on the Champions League next season and Sissoko is one of several names understood to be on the Argentinean’s hit-list.
However, the likes of Liverpool and Spurs are being put off after Newcastle reportedly placed a £35m price-tag on the 26-year-old’s head, so the Magpies are going to have to lower their expectations in order for a deal to be agreed.
Wijnaldum is another international who is expected to leave St James’ Park following Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship but once again Liverpool face competition from Tottenham as the Mirror reported at the weekend that Pochettino was also eyeing the Dutch star.
The 26-year-old enjoyed an excellent debut season in England after scoring 11 goals for doomed Newcastle following his move from PSV Eindhoven last summer so he’d be a solid addition to any top flight squad.

However, the Mirror claim that Rafa Benitez’s side value the midfielder at around £25m which could once again prove prohibitive for the likes of Liverpool or Tottenham.
So it looks like the two Premier League giants are ready to go head-to-head over two Newcastle midfielders this summer but any potential deals may require the Geordies to lower their £60m valuation of the pair.
