Liverpool failed to close the gap on Premier League leaders Chelsea after being held to a 2-2 draw by West Ham at Anfield this afternoon.
Things seemed to be going to plan for the Reds as Adam Lallana – back in the starting eleven after recovering from a month out with a groin injury – opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a fine strike.
However, West Ham levelled things up in the 27th minute after Dimitri Payet curled home a 25-year-old free-kick – although Loris Karius will feel he should have done more to keep it out.
The visitors then took a shock lead at Anfield as Michail Antonio took full advantage of some indecision from Joel Matip and Karius at the back to flick home for 1-2 in the 29th minute.
Liverpool got themselves level shortly after half-time when Divock Origi was on hand to poke home from close range after Randolph had flapped at a Sadio Mane cross from the left.
The Merseysiders pushed to find a winner but couldn’t break West Ham down during the closing stages of the game so Liverpool had to settle for a 2-2 draw which leaves them sitting third in the table, three points off Arsenal and six adrift of Chelsea.
