Watford vs Tottenham Preview, Team News, Line-Ups, Betting Tips & Prediction
Tottenham take on Watford at Vicarage Road on New Year’s Day. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups, betting tips and predicted score for the game
Tottenham will be looking to keep the pressure on the top four in the league when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road on New Year’s Day.
Spurs come in to the game in fine form having won four of their last five league games and the North Londoners eased to a 4-1 win at Southampton on Wednesday night.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently sit fifth in the Premier League table but they can leapfrog Arsenal in to the top four with a win tomorrow ahead of the Gunners clash with Crystal Palace later in the day.
Watford’s campaign has been plagued by inconsistent form and Walter Mazzarri’s side sit mid-table despite only picking up a point from their last three games but they’ll be desperate to get back to winning ways on home soil tomorrow afternoon.
Team news
Spurs have been handed a major boost after Toby Alderweireld made a swift recovery from a virus that kept him out of the win at Southampton so he’s expected to come straight back in to the side tomorrow.
The Belgian international is likely to replace Jan Vertonghen at the back as he’ll serve a one-game suspension after collecting his fifth booking of the season at St Mary’s.
Kyle Walker will also sit out the trip to Watford after picking up his fifth booking so Kieran Trippier is expected to come in at right-back.
Erik Lamela has continued to work on his fitness after two months out with a hip injury but the Argentinean international’s isn’t ready to return just yet.
Watford have big injury problems heading in to the game with Daryl Janmaat, Valon Behrami, Isaac Success, Roberto Pereyra, Stefano Okaka and Adrian Mariappa among those set to miss out.
Likely Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Watford 1-2 Tottenham: Spurs were back in form during the 4-1 win at Southampton last time out and I think they’ll be confident of getting another vital three points against Watford as they’ve never lost a Premier League game to the Hornets. I do think the hosts will cause Tottenham a few problems but am backing Pochettino’s side to edge it 2-1.
Betting Tips
Spurs are the narrow 7/10 favourites to win the game but here are some other bets I like the look of:
- Both teams to score at 19/20 – a £10 bet returns £19.50
- Exact score of 2-1 Tottenham at 15/2 – a £10 bet returns £85
- Kane to score first in a 2-1 Tottenham win at 18/1 – a £10 bet returns £190
What do you think the score will be? What line-up would you like to see put out?
