Spurs Team News: Poch – Trio To Miss FA Cup Clash + Vertonghen & Lamela Updates
Mauricio Pochettino has ruled three of his key men out of Tottenham’s FA Cup clash with Wycombe while he also gave the latest on Lamela and Vertonghen
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup when they entertain Wycombe Wanderers at White Hart Lane this weekend.
Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.
The Spurs boss confirmed that he’ll be without three of his most influential players for the game on Saturday with Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Harry Kane all ruled out.
Alderweireld was forced off during the second half of Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Manchester City last weekend after suffering a hamstring injury and the Belgian defender will now sit out the visit of Wycombe.
Rose completed the full ninety minutes against City last Saturday but the left-back was spotted leaving the Etihad Stadium in a knee brace and Pochettino has confirmed he too will miss the FA Cup tie this weekend.
The Argentinean coach also revealed that Kane has been training away from the main group during their warm weather training camp in Barcelona this week as the striker is nursing a minor groin injury.
The England international won’t be risked against Wycombe on Saturday but the good news for Spurs is that Pochettino says all three injuries aren’t serious and he hopes to have Alderweireld, Rose and Kane available for the Premier League trip to Sunderland on January 31st.
Obviously it will be a blow to Tottenham to be without three key men this weekend but in fairness Pochettino may have rested them anyway as he’s expected to make plenty of changes for the visit of the League Two side on Saturday.
The Spurs boss also gave the latest on the situation regarding Erik Lamela and the attacker is due to return to north London tomorrow after spending time recuperating with his former club Roma.
Lamela has endured a difficult time of late as he’s struggling to overcome a hip injury that’s plagued him since October while family issues have also been affecting the attacker but Pochettino says the rumours surrounding the player aren’t helping and they just want him to concentrate on getting back to fitness.
The final update was on Jan Vertonghen and Pochettino says the defender is making good progress in his recovery from an ankle injury which he picked up earlier this month and could be back in just 3-4 weeks.
Pochettino is quoted as saying this afternoon:
"@JanVertonghen is much better but probably 3-4 weeks more. @ErikLamela will come back training with us tomorrow & we'll assess him again." pic.twitter.com/Y8e9co3WKv
