Sunderland vs Tottenham Preview, Team News, Line-Ups & Predicted Score
Tottenham take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light tonight. Here is a preview with team news, line-ups and predicted score.
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to keep the pressure on leaders Chelsea with a win when they take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this evening.
Spurs warmed up for the game with a dramatic last gasp 4-3 win over Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup on Saturday which saw them score twice late on to avoid an embarrassing defeat to the League Two outfit.
However, thoughts will now turn back to Premier League matters and the north Londoners have a great opportunity to close the gap on Chelsea this evening as the leaders face a tough trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
Tottenham currently sit third in the table – nine points adrift – but that gap can be reduced to six points if Spurs beat Sunderland and see Chelsea lose on Merseyside so Mauricio Pochettino’s men need to be ready to take advantage of any slip ups.
They’ll be confident of coming away with all three points this evening as they face a Sunderland side who sit bottom of the division having won just once in their last eight games.
Team news
Tottenham will welcome back Harry Kane after the striker missed the win over Wycombe with a minor groin injury so he should reclaim his position up front.
Danny Rose has also been declared fit despite a knee problem while Toby Alderweireld is available after making a swift recovery from a hamstring injury that forced him off against Man City.
However, Jan Vertonghen remains out with an ankle injury while Erik Lamela is still working his way back to full fitness following a niggling hip problem.
Sunderland boss David Moyes will be without Papy Djilobodji after he was hit with a four-match retrospective ban by the FA for violent conduct but new signing Joleon Lescott could be involved in the squad.
Lamine Kone and Didier Ndong are on their way back from the African Nations Cup but Jan Kirchhoff, Paddy McNair, Victor Anichebe, Duncane Watmore and Lee Cattermole are still sidelined.
Likely Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Sunderland 0-2 Tottenham: The Black Cats are enduring a nightmare campaign so understandably Tottenham are the heavy favourites to win the game tonight. Pochettino will have his big guns back after resting them for the FA Cup so I can’t see past a routine away win.
