Simon Mignolet was the hero as he saved a Diego Costa penalty to keep the title race alive as Liverpool drew 1-1 with Chelsea at Anfield this evening.
Liverpool started brightly and were dominating possession early on but the Merseysiders struggled to create clear cut chances to make their dominance turn in to goals.
The Reds were then punished as Chelsea broke the deadlock when defender David Luiz lashed home a free kick to make it 0-1 in the 24th minute.
The hosts started well after the break and found the eqauliser when Georginio Wijnaldum got ahead of Luiz to head home the equaliser from close range for 1-1 in the 57th minute.
Chelsea were then gifted the perfect chance to win the game and take a huge step closer to reclaiming the title when Joel Matip was adjudged to have fouled Costa in the area. However, the Spanish international saw the resulting spot kick saved by Mignolet to keep the score at 1-1.
Neither side found a winner so it ended all square at Anfield to leave Liverpool sitting ten points adrift of Chelsea – who are now nine clear of Arsenal after they suffered a shock loss at home to Watford while Spurs are also nine behind after drawing with Sunderland.
