Liverpool’s title dreams are left in tatters after they slumped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Hull City at the KCOM Stadium this afternoon.
It was a fairly even first half but it was the Tigers who opened the scoring and it will be a goal Simon Mignolet won’t want to see again as he failed to hold on to a knock-back from a corner just before the break and Alfred N’Daiye was on hand to tap home for 1-0 in the 44th minute.
Liverpool pushed for an equaliser in the second half and should have drawn level but Philippe Coutinho missed a great chance to make it 1-1 when he fired wide when well positioned in the area.
The Merseysiders were made to pay as Hull wrapped-up the three points when on-loan Everton striker Oumar Niasse raced clear and slotted the ball through Mignolet’s legs to make it 2-0 in the 84th minute.
There was no way back for Liverpool so they remain fourth in the Premier League table and trail leaders Chelsea by a whopping 13 points with 14 games remaining so their title challenge is almost certainly over for another year.
