Liverpool and Manchester United are ready to battle-it-out over the signing of Bordeaux’s highly-rated forward Malcom this summer, according to reports
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Liverpool and Man Utd are linked with Malcom…
Liverpool and Manchester United are ready to battle-it-out over the signing of Bordeaux’s highly-rated forward Malcom this summer, according to the Mirror.
Malcom – full name Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira – began his career with Brazilian outfit Corinthians and after progressing through their youth ranks, he sealed a move to Bordeaux 13 months ago.
The 19-year-old took a little while to settle in France but he’s started to find his best form this season with 6 goals and 3 assists so far and his potential appears to be attracting interest from the Premier League.
The Mirror claim that Liverpool and Manchester United are both vying for his signature and had scouts in the stands to watch the teenager in action as Bordeaux lost to Paris Saint-Germain over the weekend.
Malcom is still under contract with the Ligue 1 club until 2020 so they are under no pressure to sell but the newspaper suggests that Liverpool and United are primed to battle-it-out over his signature at the end of the season.
Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp decided against strengthening their squads during the January transfer window but both managers are expected to be extremely busy this summer.
Mourinho knows he needs to add more firepower to his squad as United have the worst goal-scoring record of the ‘big six’ and Malcom could be one of several new additions aimed at spicing things up in the final third at Old Trafford.
Klopp on the other hand needs more depth behind the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane and Malcom’s versatility would be ideal for the Reds boss as he’s capable of playing anywhere across the front three.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but while Bordeaux will no doubt be desperate to keep hold of the Brazilian U23 international, I don’t think they’ll be able to resist cashing in if the likes of Liverpool or United come calling with a big offer for Malcom this summer.
