Youngster Makes Late Dash To Man Utd Hotel To Solve Striker Crisis vs Chelsea
Marcus Rashford could be set to solve Manchester United’s striker crisis for their FA Cup clash with Chelsea after linking up with the squad last night
Marcus Rashford could be set to solve Manchester United’s striker crisis for their FA Cup clash with Chelsea after linking up with the squad last night, according to the Daily Mail.
Rashford was initially expected to miss tonight’s FA Cup quarter final clash at Stamford Bridge after failing to travel to the capital with the rest of the squad on Sunday afternoon due to illness.
Wayne Rooney has also been ruled out after suffering a knock in training following a challenge from Phil Jones and Anthony Martial is also not available due to a minor injury.
So with Rashford seemingly ill and Zlatan Ibrahimovic starting his three-match domestic suspension following his violent conduct charge, Jose Mourinho was facing a striker crisis against Chelsea.
Marouane Fellaini was being primed to play as a make-shift target man, however, it looks like there could be a late twist as the Daily Mail claim that Rashford is set to be included in the squad tonight.
The newspaper says that the England international arrived at the United team hotel in London late last night and has been assessed by club doctors this afternoon.
It’s highly unlikely that Rashford would be made to travel down from Manchester while ill if there was not a strong chance he would be fit to feature so I think we’ll see the 19-year-old involved against Chelsea.
I said in my match preview that I wouldn’t be surprised if Mourinho was trying to pull something against his former side and it looks like that’s been the case as he’s tricked us all in to thinking he didn’t have any strikers available.
I think this has been the plan all along and Rashford was always going to play tonight but we’ll have to wait for the teams to be announced at around 6.45pm to see whether my gut feeling was right.
