Arsenal Team News: Wenger Confirms Huge Injury Boost + Duo Ruled Out
Arsene Wenger has confirmed a huge injury boost ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Crystal Palace but two other players have been ruled out of the game
Arsenal will look to keep in touch with the top four when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.
The boss confirmed a huge injury boost after revealing that Laurent Koscielny’s Achilles injury isn’t as serious as first thought so the centre-back isn’t expected to be out for too long.
Koscielny was forced off at half-time during our 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Emirates last weekend after tweaking his Achilles and Wenger described the problem as ‘serious’ after the game.
However, after further examination, the boss has now revealed that the injury isn’t as bad as first thought – although Koscielny is still not going to be available to face Palace on Monday night.
Wenger also confirmed that Francis Coquelin will be back in contention after missing the win over West Ham in midweek due to personal reasons following a death in the family.
However, there wasn’t such positive news on Petr Cech or David Ospina as our two main goalkeepers will miss the trip to Selhurst Park after failing to recover from their injuries.
Cech has missed the last two games after suffering a calf strain during the defeat to West Brom last month and Wenger had hoped for our No.1 to be available again this weekend but unfortunately he’s still out.
Ospina deputised for Cech against Man City last weekend but the Colombian international picked up a muscle problem during that game and won’t recover in time to face Palace.
Wenger is quoted as saying by Football London:
On Koscielny’s injury
He is out for Monday night. It will be shorter than expected, it’s not a tendon problem.
On the team news for Monday night
From Wednesday’s game nobody should be out. Coquelin is back in contention after a family problem. I don’t believe Cech will be available, nor Ospina – those are the two players who will still be out.
It’s a huge boost to hear that Koscielny’s injury isn’t serious as it would have been a blow to lose him for any significant period of time but Gabriel will continue alongside Shkodran Mustafi on Monday night.
In the absence of Cech and Ospina, Emiliano Martinez is set to continue in goal and he’ll be looking to put in another solid display after keeping a clean sheet against the Hammers.
