Chelsea have suffered a major injury blow with Thibaut Courtois ruled out of today’s huge clash with Manchester United due to an ankle injury.
Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur confirmed the news on Twitter after revealing that Courtois hasn’t travelled to Old Trafford having suffered an ankle injury in training.
It means Blues boss Antonio Conte is set to hand number two goalkeeper Asmir Begovic his first Premier League start of the season against United this afternoon.
Losing Courtois for such a vital game will come as a huge blow to Chelsea as the Belgian international has been ever-present in the league so far this season and has played a key role in their superb form.
The good news for Chelsea is that Courtois’ injury doesn’t sound serious as the west Londoners hope he will be fit in time for their FA Cup semi final with Tottenham next weekend.
Chelsea head to Old Trafford under pressure to pick up a positive result after seeing their lead at the top cut to just four points following Tottenham’s win over Bournemouth yesterday.
