Alexis Sanchez scored two second half goals as Arsenal kept their top four hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at the Emirates this evening.
We controlled the game from the outset but struggled to find a way past an inspired Jordan Pickford in the Sunderland goal with the young keeper making a number of fine saves to ensure it was still 0-0 at the break.
Our frustrations continued in the second half as Pickford kept us at bay but we eventually broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute when Granit Xhaka found Mesut Ozil with a lovely lofted pass and the German teed-up Sanchez to tap home from close range.
The three points were then wrapped-up in the 81st minute when Sanchez was on hand to head home after Olivier Giroud’s acrobatic effort was well saved by Pickford.
The win sees Arsenal move to within one point of fourth-placed Liverpool so we need the Merseysiders to slip-up at home to Middlesbrough on the final day of the season.
