Manchester United are closing-in on a deal to sign Monaco’s £50m-rated midfielder Fabinho as Jose Mourinho looks to wrap-up his second big-money signing of the summer, according to a report in the Telegraph.
Mourinho is expected to be extremely active in the market this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League and Champions League next season.
United confirmed over the weekend that a deal is in place to sign centre-back Victor Lindelof from Benfica and it appears the Manchester giants are now on the verge of securing a second signing.
The Telegraph are citing reports coming from Spanish newspaper Marca that claim United have made great advances in negotiations with Monaco over a £50m deal to sign Fabinho.
To add weight to this story, the Mirror are also quoting Portuguese outlet O Jogo as saying that a deal is also close to completion so it looks as though United are now closing-in on another big-money addition.
Fabinho made his name as a right-back after joining Monaco in 2013 but he reinvented himself as a defensive midfielder last season and played a key role during what was an excellent campaign for the French outfit.
The 23-year-old was virtually ever-present as Leonardo Jardim’s side won the Ligue 1 title and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League but he’s refusing to sign a new contract so a move now looks to be on the cards.
Let’s see how things develop over the coming days but I think Fabinho would be an excellent signing for United and the Brazilian international’s versatility would be a valuable asset for Mourinho.

The United boss will see Fabinho as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick in the middle of the park but he could also deputise for Antonio Valencia at right-back if needed so he’ll give Mourinho options in two important positions if he does complete a switch to Old Trafford.
