Alvaro Morata’s agent has confirmed Manchester United have submitted an offer for the £60m-rated Real Madrid striker as Jose Mourinho closes-in on his second summer signing, according to a report in the Mirror.
United agreed a deal to sign Swedish centre-back Victor Lindelof last weekend so Mourinho has now turned his attention to strengthening his attacking options with Morata emerging as a prime target.
The Portuguese coach is in the market for a new number 9 after losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sky Sports News reported earlier this month that United had seen an opening £52.4m offer for Morata rejected by Madrid.
Spanish outlet Marca then claimed on Sunday that the Red Devils had informed Madrid they were willing to increase their offer to £60m after Mourinho had convinced Morata to join United during a personal phonecall.
The 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a starting spot at the Bernabeu since moving back to Spain having made just 16 starts last season and with the World Cup Finals coming up next summer, Morata is looking to leave Madrid in search of regular action.
The newspaper said that Mourinho had reassured the striker he would be an integral part of his starting eleven if he moved to Old Trafford while Ander Herrera and David De Gea have also spoken with their compatriot about life at the club.
Morata’s agent, Juanma Lopez, has now confirmed that United have a ‘very interesting’ offer on the table to sign the striker and says the decision is now with Madrid, while the representative also revealed that AC Milan’s offer has been rejected.
When asked about Morata joining United, Lopez is quoted by the Mirror as telling calciomercato:
“It’s a great club, a very interesting option. I can say that this is a very important proposal and now the decision is with Real.”
“There have been frequent contacts with Milan until a few days ago, I can confirm. But Real Madrid has simply found the Rossoneri club’s offer unsatisfactory.”
So it looks like United are now in pole position to sign Morata and Madrid are expected to discuss their offer over the coming week so we should know a decision soon but I think he’d be an excellent signing if they could get a deal agreed.

The Spanish international impressed during his two years at Juventus and despite his lack of playing time last season, he still managed to score 20 goals for Madrid so Morata would add a much-needed goal threat to the United squad.
