Manchester United are in talks with Real Madrid over a potential £70m deal to sign Alvaro Morata and the move could be completed at some point next week, according to Marca.
Jose Mourinho is expected to be extremely active in the transfer market this summer as he looks to build a title-winning squad and a top class striker is a priority after losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Morata has emerged as a prime target with the player being tipped to leave Madrid just 12 months after moving back to the Bernabeu following a successful two-year spell at Juventus.
The 24-year-old has struggled to nail down a starting spot in Zinedine Zidane’s side having managed just 16 starts last season so the Spanish international wants a move to boost his chances of making the World Cup finals next summer.
Spanish outlet AS reported earlier this month that Morata’s agent held talks with Madrid officials about a possible move to Old Trafford after the striker had agreed personal terms over the switch.
Now, Marca are reporting that Morata has informed Madrid he wants to leave and join United with talks now taking place between the two clubs over a deal.
The Spanish newspaper says Madrid are determined to hold out for £70m as they known Mourinho is desperate to sign the striker but a deal is expected to be reached over the coming days.
Morata is currently enjoying his honeymoon after getting married but Marca say he wants his move to United wrapped-up when he returns, so we could see the striker complete his switch to Old Trafford at some point next week.
If United get this deal over the line then Morata would become Mourinho’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Swedish centre-back Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Morata would be an excellent signing as despite his lack of starts last season, he still managed to score 20 goals and he has the potential to become one of the best strikers in Europe if he’s given a more prominent role at United.
