Arsene Wenger has confirmed his interest in signing £120m-rated Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe despite facing competition from Man Utd and Real Madrid
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsene Wenger speaks out on his interest in Kylian Mbappe…
Arsene Wenger has confirmed he remains interested in signing £120m-rated Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe despite facing competition from the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, according to The Sun.
Mbappe is the hottest property in world football after enjoying a breakthrough campaign that saw him score 24 goals and provide 14 assists to help lead Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season.
The 18-year-old has attracted interest from a whole host of top European clubs with The Sun claiming that Arsenal and Man Utd have joined the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in chasing the teen sensation.
We’ve seen various reports over the past few weeks of huge bids being made for Mbappe but the newspaper suggests the striker could eventually be sold for a fee in the region of £120m – which would smash the current transfer record.
Usually Arsenal don’t tend to get involved in bidding wars at the very top end of the transfer market but boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that it’s impossible for any top club not to be interested in Mbappe due to his rare talent.
The Frenchman claims the teenager has his pick of who to join if he does decide to leave Monaco and says all of Europe’s big clubs are ready to roll the red carpet out for the youngster.
Speaking at his press conference after arriving in Australia for Arsenal’s pre-season tour, Wenger is quoted as saying by The Sun:
“He’s a player who when he gets up in the morning, he can choose where he wants to go.
“There’s not many with that kind of luck at 18 years of age. All of Europe has the red carpet rolled out for him.
“I believe nobody can say he is not interested in a player of that calibre because he’s got such a rare and immense quality at 18 years of age. All the clubs are interested in him.”
Arsenal broke their transfer record to sign striker Alexandre Lacazette last week but it seems Wenger doesn’t want to miss the opportunity to sign Mbappe and is ready to lure him to the Emirates if he opts to come to England.
However, United have the financial muscle to compete with Arsenal for the French international and Jose Mourinho is expected to sign another striker this summer despite splashing out on Romelu Lukaku yesterday.
