Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Eric Dier is desperate to join Man Utd…
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier is desperate to leave north London and push through a potential £50m move to Manchester United this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.
Dier has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks after United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly made him one of his prime midfield targets.
The Portuguese coach has already spent heavily on centre-back Victor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku but he needs to sign a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick in the middle of the park.
Dier has emerged as one of Mourinho’s key targets but Tottenham have so far insisted they aren’t willing to sell the England international and chairman Daniel Levy is known to be difficult to negotiate with.
However, the Mirror are citing a report from the Manchester Evening News that claims Dier is ‘desperate’ to join United this summer as he’s a boyhood fan of the Manchester giants and grew up idolising Roy Keane.
Dier only signed a new long-term contract at White Hart Lane last summer so Spurs are in a strong negotiating position and the newspaper suggests it would take a bid of at least £50m to tempt Tottenham in to a deal.
The north Londoners have recently agreed a similar fee for Kyle Walker to join Man City so they could also turn a huge profit on Dier if they decide to do business with United having only paid £4m for him three years ago.
The 23-year-old has been regularly used as a central defender during his time at Spurs but his preferred position is in midfield and it appears Mourinho is offering him the chance to play their on a regular basis.
Dier has struggled to hold down a starting spot in midfield at Tottenham as Victor Wanyama is Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice holding midfielder so you can see why he’s tempted by a switch to Old Trafford.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I don’t think this is a transfer story that’s going to go away any time soon and wouldn’t be surprised if a deal was eventually agreed later in the summer.
