Manchester United are now favourites to sign Marco Verratti after the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder hired Mino Raiola as his new agent, according to a report in the Telegraph.
Jose Mourinho has already spent over £100m on the signings of centre-back Victor Lindelof and striker Romelu Lukaku but the United boss has confirmed he’s hoping to bring in two more new faces this summer.
A central midfielder to act as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick – who turns 36 later this month – is needed and United have been linked with a whole host of players in recent weeks.
However, Verratti has now emerged as a key target with the Express reporting earlier this week that United officials had held talks with the midfielders entourage about a potential switch to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have now been handed a major boost in their pursuit as the Telegraph cite a report from The Sun that claims United are now the firm favourites to sign Verratti after he appointed Raiola as his new agent.
The 24-year-old was left unimpressed by comments made by former agent Donato Di Campli who suggested the player was being held prisoner at PSG and he was later forced to issue a public apology.
Verratti has now dumped Di Campli and confirmed on his official Instagram account last night that he’d hired Raiola as his new agent, which will be music to the ears of United fans.
Raiola is a man United know extremely well as he’s brokered deals for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku to move to Old Trafford over the past 14 months.
It looks like Verratti could be the latest Raiola client to head for Manchester and there’s no doubt he’d be a sensational signing if United could lure him away from the Parc des Princes this summer.

The Italian international has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in the world since joining PSG from Pescara in 2012 and I think he’d be the perfect partner for Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in the middle of the park.
