Man Utd & Tottenham Eye Cut-Price £20m Swoop For Premier League Star
Manchester United and Tottenham will consider a swoop for Ross Barkley if Everton substantially lower their £50m valuation later in the summer transfer window
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Ross Barkley….
Manchester United and Tottenham will consider a swoop for Ross Barkley if Everton substantially lower their £50m valuation later in the summer transfer window, according to the Mirror.
Barkley has been with Everton his entire career after progressing through their youth ranks and he forged a reputation as one of the hottest young talents in England after breaking in to the first team set-up in 2012.
The attacking midfielder initially struggled to find consistent form but he started to show his true potential under Ronald Koeman last season when he chipped in with 6 goals and 9 assists to help Everton secure a seventh-placed finish.
However, the 23-year-old’s future at Goodison Park is in serious doubt as he’s in the final 12 months of his current contract and has refused to sign an extension, despite Everton offering lucrative terms.
Barkley has attracted interest from a number of clubs but the Mirror claim that the likes of Man Utd and Tottenham have so far been put off by Everton’s £50m asking price.
The newspaper suggests that the two clubs are going to continue to monitor the situation with a view to making a late swoop for the England international if the Toffees lower their valuation to around the £20m mark later this summer.
The feeling is that Everton will eventually have to accept a much lower fee as Barkley has made it clear he won’t sign a new deal so they’ll risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time unless reduce their £50m asking price.
Barkley is also going to have to lower his demands as the Mirror claim he is looking for in excess of the £110,000-a-week he’s been offered at Goodison, and United and Spurs aren’t prepared to pay over the odds.
The midfielder is currently recovering from a groin operation but he’s expected to be fit inside four weeks which will be just in time for him to make a move during the closing stages of the window.
I think Barkley would be an excellent signing for United or Spurs if they could snap him up anywhere near £20m as that kind of money for an England international in today’s market is superb value.

He has his best years ahead of him and can play in a variety of positions so he’d give Jose Mourinho or Mauricio Pochettino plenty of options if either manager were successful in signing him this summer.
