Manchester United are preparing a huge £70m bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti as Jose Mourinho eyes his third summer signing, according to a report by Calciomercato.
Mourinho is growing increasingly frustrated with United’s lack of movement in the transfer market as the club have so far only landed two of key targets – Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku.
The Portuguese coach is desperate to bring in another central midfielder as Michael Carrick turns 36 this week and Verratti has emerged as a prime candidate to replace the newly-appointed skipper.
Verratti was strongly linked with a move to Barcelona earlier in the summer but the move was derailed after the midfielder was forced to apologise following comments made by his then agent, Donato Di Campli, which suggested he was being held prisoner in Paris.
This prompted the 24-year-old to sack Di Campli and hire Mino Raiola as his new representatives and the Telegraph reported last week that United are now considered favourites to sign Verratti due to Raiola’s links with the club.
The super-agent is well known to United chiefs as he’s brokered deals for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku to move to Old Trafford over the past 14 months.
It seems Verratti could be the next Raiola client to be heading to United as Italian outlet Calciomercato claim the Red Devils are ready to test PSG’s resolve with a huge £70m (€78m) bid.
The report also indicates that the French giants are keen to have Anthony Martial included in any potential deal but it’s unlikely United will be willing to allow the attacker to leave this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but Verratti would be a sensational signing if United could pull it off as he’s one of the best all-round midfielder’s in Europe and I think he’s be the perfect partner for Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in the middle of the park.
