Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Key Duo Will Miss Everton But 24-Year-Old To Start
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that two key players will miss Liverpool’s FA Cup clash with Everton while a 24-year-old will start.
Liverpool will be hoping to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup when they entertain Everton at Anfield on Friday night.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided the latest team and injury news.
The Reds boss confirmed that two key players remain unavailable for selection with Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho both ruled of the Merseyside derby tomorrow night.
Salah missed the 2-1 victory over Burnley on New Year’s Day due to a minor groin injury while Coutinho also missed the trip to Turf Moor with a thigh problem.
The duo will now sit out the visit of Everton on Friday but Klopp insists the injuries aren’t serious and he feels Coutinho will be one of a number of players that will be available for the huge showdown with Manchester City at Anfield on January 14th.
The Liverpool boss also gave an update on Alberto Moreno and Jordan Henderson and while he described their situations as ‘not too cool’, Klopp expects them to be return to training next week which could put them in contention to face City.
Klopp is expected to freshen things up tomorrow and there is certain to be at least one change as the Reds boss has revealed that Loris Karius will start in goal with Simon Mignolet given a breather.
Klopp is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo:
“Mo and Phil are not available. It’s not possible. They are not big injuries to be honest, it’s only a week, we were quite lucky.”
“Phil is in a bunch of players I think who are available for the City game. That’s the 14 of January, right? Yeah, I think so.”
“Hendo and Alberto, the situation is not too cool but they are really on the way back. After Everton they can be part of team training, we will see what that means for the City game.
“Loris will start, and I have to ask John Achterberg first, but yes, Wardy is sub. Simon has a little break. That’s it.”
Recent signing Virgil van Dijk could make his debut following his move from Southampton while the likes of Andrew Robertson, Joel Matip, James Milner and Roberto Firmino are also pushing for recalls.
