Liverpool are plotting a stunning £89m swoop for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring in a new No.1, according to Spanish outlet AS.
Goalkeeper has been a problem area for Klopp ever since he moved to Merseyside as neither Simon Mignolet nor Loris Karius have been able to establish themselves as a reliable stopper between the sticks.
Klopp has regularly chopped and changed his goalkeepers over the past two years and it seems to have taken it’s toll on Mignolet as the Belgian has voiced his concerns over the ‘unhealthy’ situation.
Mignolet has largely been used as the first choice keeper in recent months but has been dropped for two of Liverpool’s last three games including the 4-3 win over Man City at the weekend.
Karius hasn’t exactly taken his opportunities by the scruff of the neck as he hasn’t instilled any confidence that he’s the long-term solution to Liverpool’s problems either.
A new No.1 now seems to be on the agenda at Anfield and Spanish outlet AS claim Klopp is eyeing a sensational swoop for Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak this summer.
The Slovenia international has developed in to one of the best keepers in Europe since joining Atletico from Benfica in the summer of 2014 and he’s now a vital part of Diego Simeone’s starting eleven.
The 25-year-old has conceded just 12 goals in his 25 appearances this season, keeping 15 clean sheets along the way, and it seems his impressive displays have caught the eye at Liverpool.

Oblak would undoubtedly be a superb addition at Anfield but he won’t come cheap as his contract – which runs until 2021 – includes a release clause worth £89m and Atletico are actively trying to tie him to a new deal that would see that fee increase further.
