Liverpool & Man Utd In Talks With Agent Over Deal To Sign Spanish Defender
Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs to have held talks with Aleix Vidal’s agent as they look to lure the Barcelona defender to England
The January transfer window is now open so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Aleix Vidal is linked with a move to the Premier League…
Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs to have held talks with Aleix Vidal’s agent as they look to lure the Barcelona defender to England, according to a report in the Mirror.
Vidal has been well travelled during his career as he played for the likes of Gimnastic, Mallorca, Almeria and Sevilla before joining Barcelona in the summer of 2015.
Due to the Catalans transfer embargo, Vidal wasn’t eligible to play for his new club until January 2016 but he’s struggled to force his way in to the starting eleven on a regular basis over the past two years.
The 28-year-old has started just 3 La Liga games so far this campaign with both Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo ahead of him in Ernesto Valverde’s pecking order at right-back.
No doubt Vidal is growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of playing time, especially in a World Cup year where he’ll be hoping to make a late push to be included in the Spain squad.
It seems several English clubs are showing a keen interest as the Mirror are citing reports from Spain that claim Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs who have been alerted to Vidal’s situation.
The report says Liverpool and United have already opened talks with the defender’s agent about a move to England but they could face more competition from Man City or Everton.
Vidal is predominantly a right-back but he is also comfortable at wing-back or further forward in midfield so his versatility is sure to appeal to the Premier League clubs.
Jose Mourinho needs to find a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia as the Ecuadorian international turns 33 this year and Matteo Darmian has failed to impress so the United boss appears to be eyeing Vidal.

Jurgen Klopp could also be in the market for another right-back as Nathaniel Clyne has missed the entire season so far with a serious back injury and Vidal is seemingly on the Liverpool managers radar.
