Arsenal have stolen a march on the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United after opening talks to sign £30m-rated Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Soyuncu has been a huge hit in the Bundesliga since joining Freiburg from Altindoru in 2016 with the youngster now a permanent fixture in Christian Streich’s starting eleven.
The 21-year-old has made 25 appearances so far this season and has already racked-up 13 caps for the senior Turkey national team having previously represented his country at youth level.
The centre-back’s impressive potential has caught the eye of several clubs here in the Premier League with TeamTalk claiming that Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd are among those to have expressed an interest.
Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho are both expected to be in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer and it seems the north-west giants are keeping a close eye on Soyuncu’s progress.
However, it looks like Arsenal have stolen a march on Liverpool and United as TeamTalk are citing a report from the Daily Mail that claims the Gunners have now opened talks over a potential deal.
The newspaper says Arsenal’s head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, has identified Soyuncu as a target and has stepped-up his interest after scouts watched the defender several times in recent months.
The Gunners need to sign at least one central defender this summer as Laurent Koscielny has struggled with an Achilles injury this season while Per Mertesacker is retiring so Soyuncu could be eyed as a replacement.
However, the north Londoners will have to be prepared to dig deep as the report says the Turkish international is under contract until 2021 and Freiburg value him at around £30m.
