Tottenham Team News: Pochettino Confirms Major Fitness Boost Ahead Of Stoke Trip
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed a major fitness boost ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Stoke City this weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to cement their top four place when they take on Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and has provided a team news and injury update ahead of the game.
The Spurs boss was pleased to confirm that Harry Kane is pushing for a recall to the starting eleven after making a swift recovery from an ankle ligament injury.
Kane sustained the problem during Tottenham’s win over Bournemouth almost a month ago and was forced to miss the FA Cup quarter-final win over Swansea as well as England’s recent friendlies.
There were fears the 24-year-old could be ruled out for up to six weeks, however, Kane made a miraculous recovery and made a surprise substitute appearance during last weekend’s 3-1 win over Chelsea.
After getting 20 minutes under his belt at Stamford Bridge, Kane has trained hard over the past week and Pochettino says the striker is now pushing for a recall to the starting eleven.
Pochettino is quoted as saying by talkSPORT:
“Harry is OK. He was OK after playing 20 minutes against Chelsea and this week was good, he has been working hard.
“Yes, he’s going to play. OK, we need to see him in one more training session today, but he’s doing well.
“He is so determined to help the team achieve and of course he is hungry to score.”
It will come as a major boost for Kane to be declared match fit as the striker looks to add to his impressive tally of 35 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign.
However, Spurs will continue to be without Harry Winks for the trip to the Britannia Stadium tomorrow as the midfielder is still working his way back from an ankle injury.
