Arsenal are set to unveil the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos after he completed his medical ahead of a £17m move from Borussia Dortmund
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Sokratis Papastathopoulos has completed his medical with Arsenal….
Arsenal are set to unveil the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos after he completed his medical ahead of a £17m move from Borussia Dortmund, according to the Daily Mail.
Unai Emery is looking to strengthen our defence as Per Mertesacker has moved in to a coaching role following his retirement while Laurent Koscielny will miss a large part of next season due to his Achilles injury so our new head coach needs to bring in at least one new centre-back this summer.
Sokratis has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks and his father was quoted in the Mirror as saying that the Greek international was set for a move to Arsenal after snubbing the advances of Manchester United with Sven Mislintat believed to be the driving force behind the deal.
The 30-year-old has been a key player for Dortmund since joining from Werder Bremen in 2013 but his future at the Westfalonstadion has been in doubt over the past few months as he’s got just one year left on his deal and has refused to sign an extension.
Dortmund have therefore decided to cash-in now rather than lose him for nothing in 12 months time and the Daily Mail claim Sokratis has now completed his medical with Arsenal ahead of a £17m move to north London.

There have been pictures circulating on social media showing Sokratis in London on Sunday afternoon so if there are no last minute complications we could announce the defender’s arrival on Monday.
Sokratis is now expected to be our third major signing of the summer with Emery already snapping-up right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus while goalkeeper Bernd Leno has arrived from Bayer Leverkusen.

And we could make another addition to the squad soon with the newspaper saying that a £25m deal to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria has also been agreed and the midfielder is expected to complete his move to Arsenal once Uruguay exit the World Cup.
