Tottenham take on Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday afternoon. Here is a preview with the latest team news, line-ups and prediction
Tottenham will be looking to maintain their 100% start to the new season when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs won their opening two matches against Newcastle and Fulham before thrashing Manchester United at Old Trafford last week to ensure they’ve made the perfect start to the 2018/19 campaign.
However, Mauricio Pochettino has warned his players not to get ahead of themselves as they still have a lot of work to do to prove they are ready to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the title this season.
Watford have also enjoyed an excellent start to the season as Javi Garcia’s men sit level with Tottenham on nine points having won their opening three matches against Brighton, Burnley and Crystal Palace so someone’s perfect record has to go tomorrow.
Team news
Tottenham will be without captain Hugo Lloris as the goalkeeper has been ruled out with a thigh injury so Michel Vorm is set to make a rare Premier League start at Watford.
Moussa Sissoko is also out with a hamstring problem while Erik Lamela will be handed a late fitness test after picking up a hamstring complaint in the warm-up ahead of the United game.
Victor Wanyama is back in full training after recovering from a knee injury but Son Heung-min is still away on international duty with South Korea after winning the Asian Games.
Watford will be without Tom Cleverley as he’s nursing an Achilles injury but Nathaniel Chalobah is expected to be available despite limping off with cramp in midweek.
Miguel Britos has recovered from a knock and Gerard Deulofeu is available again after returning to full training this week.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Watford 1-2 Tottenham: Spurs have an excellent recent record against Watford as they’re unbeaten in their last 12 meetings [W8 D4] but this should be a tough game. The Hornets have started superbly and will no doubt make a real game of this but I think Tottenham will have just too much for them. It will be close, but I’m backing Spurs to edge it 2-1.
