Transfer news: 23y/o wants to join Liverpool after turning down Tottenham move
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot is holding out for a move to Liverpool after turning down a switch to Tottenham, according to reports
The January transfer window is coming to a close so managers are working hard on strengthening their squads and identifying targets for the summer so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest rumours. Today, Adrien Rabiot is keen to join Liverpool….
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot is holding out for a move to Liverpool after turning down a switch to Tottenham, according to reports in France via the Mirror.
Rabiot has been at PSG since joining their youth ranks in 2012 and has made over 220 appearances for the first team over the past six years but his future at the Parc des Princes is in serious doubt.
The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has made it clear to the Ligue 1 champions that he won’t be signing an extension so he was recently banished to train with the youth squad by boss Thomas Tuchel.
Barcelona were strongly linked with the French international before signing Frenkie de Jong from Ajax last week and this appeared to open the door for Tottenham to try and snap-up the talented midfielder on a free transfer.
France Football reported recently that Spurs had held talks with Rabiot’s camp about a potential move to north London this summer after Mauricio Pochettino identified the player as a priority transfer target.
Tottenham sold Mousa Dembele to Chinese Super League club Guangzhou R&F earlier this month so they need midfield reinforcements and Rabiot would have been an excellent replacement if Spurs could win the race for his signature.
However, the Mirror are citing a report from Paris United that claims Rabiot has turned down Tottenham’s proposal because he’s holding out for a move to Liverpool in order to play under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Klopp splashed out on Naby Keita and Fabinho last summer but James Milner is coming towards the end of his career and Adam Lallana is tipped to leave after falling out of favour so Klopp could turn to Rabiot to boost his midfield options.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but Rabiot is a hugely talented player so I think he’d be an excellent signing for Liverpool, or indeed Tottenham, if either club were able to get a deal agreed.
