Managers are making plans ahead to the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham are linked with Liverpool target Julian Brandt….
Tottenham have opened talks over the signing of long-term Liverpool target Julian Brandt and could sign the Bayer Leverkusen attacker for just £21m this summer, according to reports in Germany via the Mirror.
Brandt has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in European football since breaking into the Bayer first team set-up in 2014 and he’s enjoying a superb campaign that’s seen him provide 9 goals and 17 assists in all competitions so far this term.
That kind of form has led to interest from some of Europe’s top clubs with the Mirror claiming that Liverpool are long-term admirers in Brandt and have once again been linked with a swoop for the 23-year-old this summer.
Jurgen Klopp already has a wealth of attacking talent in his squad but Liverpool could still do with another creative central attacking midfielder as they never really replaced Philippe Coutinho and Brandt could be an excellent addition at Anfield.
However, it seems Liverpool will face some serious competition if they do formalise a move for Brandt as the Mirror are citing a report from SportBild that claims Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid have held all held talks with the player’s father about a potential move. [The Mirror don’t link directly to the SportBild article as it’s only been published in the paper version of their site so far.]
The German outlet reports that Brandt is expected to leave the BayArena this summer as he has just two years remaining on his current deal and can leave for around £21m due to a clause in his contract.
That kind of money would appeal to Tottenham as they operated on a tight budget while their stadium was being built and they haven’t signed a senior first team player since Lucas Moura 18 months ago.
Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to strengthen his squad this summer as he looks to push the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool closer to the Premier League title next season and they will be an attractive proposition for any player after reaching the Champions League final.
Pochettino could also be in the market for a new attacking midfielder as doubts continue over the future of Christian Eriksen so Tottenham could be viewing Brandt as a potential replacement for the Danish international.

Brandt made his name as a winger but has excelled since being moved into a more central attacking role so he could be an astute piece of business if Tottenham are able to lure him to North London this summer.
