Tottenham are ready to launch a £54m [€60m] bid to sign Ajax star David Neres if they fail in their attempts to sign Giovani Lo Celso or Paulo Dybala this summer, according to Calciomercato.
Mauricio Pochettino has splashed a club record fee to sign midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon this summer while Jack Clarke was signed from Leeds United in a deal that will see the highly-rated winger remain on loan at Elland Road this season.
However, Pochettino is expected to try and further strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes on August 8th and an attacking midfielder is on the agenda amid speculation surrounding the future of Christian Eriksen.
Tottenham have been strongly linked with a move for Lo Celso in recent months but they’ve so far failed to agree a deal as Calciomercato claim their €60m offer falls short of Real Betis’ €70m valuation.
Spurs have also been linked with a sensational swoop for Dybala over the past few days with TuttoMercatoWeb carrying a report that claimed the north Londoners had made contact with Juventus to express their interest.
However, a deal for the Argentinean international will be extremely difficult to pull off so it looks like Pochettino has lined-up an alternative target with Calciomercato reporting that Spurs are also keen on Neres.
The Italian publication says Tottenham are ready to hijack Everton’s proposed move for the Ajax attacker by tabling a £54m [€60m] bid if they fail to agree deals for Lo Celso or Dybala over the coming days.
Neres was one of the most highly-rated youngsters in South America before joining Ajax in January 2017 and he enjoyed an excellent first full season in Holland having provided 15 goals and 14 assists in his 35 appearances in all competitions last campaign.

The 22-year-old is comfortable playing on either wing or even through the middle so his versatility would be seen as a useful asset by Pochettino and I think the Brazilian international would be an exciting signing if Tottenham ended up bringing him to the Premier League.
