Tottenham to sign South American star in £54.7m deal, player will pen 5-year contract
We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the world. Here, Tottenham close-in on Giovani Lo Celso…
Tottenham are on the verge of signing Giovani Lo Celso for £54.7m with the Real Betis midfielder set to pen a five-year contract with the north Londoners, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.
Lo Celso has been one of the hottest talents of the summer transfer window after enjoying an excellent campaign with Betis last season that saw him provide 16 goals and 6 assists in his first year at the club after joining from Paris Saint-Germain on an initial 12-month loan deal.
The 23-year-old’s impressive form persuaded Betis to activate an option-to-buy clause in April that led to the Argentinean international joining the club in a £20m deal but the Spaniard’s are now set to turn an immediate profit.
Tottenham have been strongly linked with a move for Lo Celso throughout the summer and despite interest from rival clubs in Europe, it looks like the South American has opted to play for his compatriot at Spurs.
Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira claims Tottenham are now on the verge of signing Lo Celso in a deal worth £54.7m [€60m] with the midfielder set to sign a five-year contract earning him £3.65m-per-year.
Schira expects Lo Celso’s move to White Hart Lane to go through before the transfer window closes on August 8th with Betis already signing Lyon’s Nabil Fekir as his replacement.
He tweeted:
Great deal for Mauricio #Pochettino. #Tottenham is closing Giovanni #LoCelso from #BetisSevilla for €60M. Betis will replace him with #Fekir. #transfers #THFC
Last details for Giovanni #LoCelso to #Tottenham. He will sign a contract by €4M a year until 2024. #transfers #THFC
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but it appears Spurs are closing-in on another big-money signing with Lo Celso set to follow club record signing Tanguy Ndombele in making a move to north London.
However, the Argentinean international’s arrival will only cast further doubt over the future of Christian Eriksen with the Dane strongly linked with a move after publicly confirming he’s keen to seek a new challenge this summer.

Let’s wait for further developments but I think Lo Celso would prove to be a superb signing for Tottenham even if it means they’ll ultimately lose Eriksen in the process.
