Tottenham have agreed a deal worth £55m to sign Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso as Mauricio Pochettino closes-in on his third signing of the summer, according to the Daily Record.
Pochettino smashed Tottenham’s transfer record to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon last month while the north Londoners have also snapped-up highly rated attacker Jack Clarke before immediately loaning him back to Leeds United.
However, Pochettino is still hoping to bring in at least one more signing before the window slams shut on Thursday evening and Lo Celso has been touted as one of his prime targets throughout the summer.
After weeks of negotiations, the Daily Record claims Tottenham have finally reached an agreement to sign Lo Celso that will see them pay Betis £47.6m [€52m] up front with a further £7.3m €8m] coming in performance related add-ons.
As long as there are no late complications, Lo Celso is expected to complete his move to White Hart Lane over the coming days which should end Tottenham’s reported interest in Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes.
The Daily Record says Spurs held talks with Sporting last week and saw an opening £45.7m bid rejected but I suspect their pursuit of the Portuguese international will be over if Lo Celso completes his proposed move to the Londoners.
Pochettino has been in the market for a creative midfielder ever since Christian Eriksen expressed his desire to seek a new challenge at the start of the summer and Lo Celso has been identified as a replacement for the Danish star.
The 23-year-old joined Betis on an initial loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain last summer but the Spaniard’s activated a £20m option-to-buy clause in April after seeing Lo Celso provide 16 goals and 6 assists last season.
