Tottenham are eyeing a move to sign Napoli’s £20m-rated defender Elseid Hysaj as Mauricio Pochettino looks to land a right-back before Thursday’s deadline, according to reports.
Pochettino was initially expected to head into the new Premier League season with Serge Aurier, Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth as his options at right-back after selling Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid last month.
However, Aurier has only recently returned to first team training after picking up yet another injury while away at the African Cup of Nations while Foyth suffered a serious ankle injury during last week’s pre-season friendly with Bayern Munich.
It means Pochettino is now ready to dip into the market to strengthen his options at right-back before the window closes on Thursday evening and it appears Hysaj has emerged as a potential target.
Sky Sports claims Tottenham are exploring a move to sign the Napoli defender this week after being impressed by his performance since he moved to the San Paolo Stadium from Emploi in 2015.
The Express are also reporting that Spurs are targetting a move for Hysaj and the newspaper suggests that Napoli want around £20m in order to get a deal agreed for the Albanian international.
Hysaj has made over 130 Serie A appearances for Napoli and is a regular for his country so he’d provide Tottenham with an experienced option at right-back if he does end up moving to White Hart Lane.
The 25-year-old is also comfortable playing at left-back when needed so his versatility would also be a valuable asset for Pochettino amid reports Danny Rose could be heading for a move this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but if Hysaj does join Tottenham he’d become their third major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke – who’s returned to Leeds on loan.
