BBC journalist offers major update on Tottenham’s proposed £65m deal
Tottenham’s move to sign South American superstar Paulo Dybala is OFF after Juventus pulled out of the proposed deal, according to the BBC
Transfer deadline day is here and managers are desperately trying to get those last minute deals over the line so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the world. Here, the latest on Paulo Dybala…
Tottenham’s move to sign South American superstar Paulo Dybala is OFF after Juventus pulled out of the proposed deal, according to respected BBC journalist David Ornstein.
Dybala’s future at the Serie A champions has been in major doubt over the past few weeks as reports claim Juventus have been looking to offload the South American as new boss Maurizio Sarri continues to revamp his squad.
Widespread speculation in the media linked Dybala with a move to Manchester United as part of a deal for Romelu Lukaku but a possible move to Old Trafford fell apart due to complications over wages and image rights.
It looked as though Tottenham could be the beneficiaries with several outlets reporting the North Londoners were closing-in on a deal to sign the 25-year-old forward on deadline day.
The Independent claimed Dybala had agreed personal terms ahead of a proposed move to Tottenham with The Sun suggesting the deal would cost Spurs around £65m – which would represent a new club record.
There were growing reports claiming that Tottenham were working hard trying to agree image rights in order to get a deal over the line ahead of today’s 5pm deadline, however, it looks like the move has now collapsed.
Respected BBC journalist David Ornstein claims Tottenham’s move to sign Dybala is now off after Juventus performed a dramatic u-turn and decided not to sell the Argentinean international this summer.
He tweeted:
BREAKING: Tottenham’s proposed move for Paulo Dybala is OFF after Juventus ultimately decided not to sell the 25-year-old Argentina forward #THFC #Juve
Sky Sports have supported this claim as they suggest Juve won’t let Dybala leave without finding a replacement first so it looks like Tottenham’s hopes of getting a deal agreed are fading fast.
The news will come as a huge blow to Tottenham as Dybala would have been a major coup if they managed to lure him to White Hart Lane but it appears the deal has now collapsed.

However, Pochettino is still expected to sign a couple of players today with Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso close to completing their moves from Fulham and Real Betis respectively.
