Tottenham vs Southampton preview | Team news | Expected line-up’s | Prediction
This is a match preview ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Southampton including team news, line-ups and predicted score
Tottenham will look to get their season back on track when they take on Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Spurs have endured a poor start to the new campaign and the pressure is on Mauricio Pochettino after the north Londoners were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of League Two Colchester on Tuesday night.
Tottenham also tasted defeat away to Leicester City in the Premier League last weekend and sit seventh in the table so Pochettino will be desperate to get back to winning ways against Southampton this weekend.
The Saints head to the capital just one point behind Spurs in the league despite losing to Bournemouth last week but they thrashed rivals Portsmouth 4-0 in the League Cup in midweek so they should be in confident mood tomorrow.
Team news
Tottenham have no fresh injury worries but they continue to be without summer singing Giovani Lo Celso as he’s still recovering from a hip injury while Ryan Sessegnon is also out with an on-going hamstring issue.
Pochettino is set to make wholesale changes to his starting eleven after fielding a weakened side against Colchester. Hugo Lloris, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Harry Winks, Hueng-min Son and Harry Kane are among those set for recalls.
As for Southampton, they’ll be without Moussa Djenepo as he’s on the sidelines with a muscle issue while Alex McCarthy is a doubt with his own muscle problem.
Boss Ralph Hasenhüttl could also make changes to the side that beat Portsmouth 4-0 in midweek with Nathan Redmond expected to come in to the starting eleven.
Expected line-ups
Prediction
Tottenham 2-0 Southampton: Spurs have been hugely inconsistent this season but they should still be confident of seeing off Southampton at home. They won their last home match 4-0 against Palace and have won seven of their last eight meetings with the Saints. The pressure is on Pochettino to get a response following the League Cup exit and I think they’ll be too strong for Southampton tomorrow.
