Based on his recent form at Chelsea, experts believe Cole Palmer needs to be in the England squad for the European Championship finals this summer.
Based on his recent form at Chelsea, experts believe Cole Palmer needs to be in the England squad for the European Championship finals this summer.
Since switching from Manchester City to Chelsea, Palmer has been ferocious on the field. Football great Ian Ladyman believes that Palmer has the potential to get the nod for the England jersey ahead of the Euros.
Fans who’ve been regulars at Chelsea with vetter sellers’ tickets will agree wholeheartedly. While Chelsea has had one of their worst seasons, second to only Manchester United, Palmer has been the only positive.
Palmer’s recent performances impressed them, highlighting his abilities and suggesting he’s making a significant impact at Chelsea.
Pundit Chris Sutton acknowledged Palmer’s talent but was skeptical if Gareth Southgate would suddenly shift to including Palmer in the side. He stressed that at a crucial standpoint like the Euro 2024, where England is desperately trying to win some silverware, Southgate might stick with his more established players.
Experts Ladyman and Sutton are enthusiastic about Palmer’s potential and believe he could bring something special to the England team. But the key challenge will be bringing in a newcomer to blend into the already established England side.
Southgate has time till May to name his final touring squad.
Where to Play Jude?
England has a history of struggling to utilize their skilled players. We’ve seen it happen with players like Matt Le Tissier, Glenn Hoddle, and Paul Gascoigne.
Despite brief brilliance, players like Gascoigne and Wayne Rooney might have yet to reach their peak potential with the national team.
Now manager Gareth Southgate has an issue he needs to address with Jude Bellingham emerging as one of the world’s best players since he switched from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid.
Some argue that England should build its team around him, with him being just 20 years of age, instead of forcing him to fit into a particular role.
Bellingham has shown a lot of promise not just as a player but also as a captaincy candidate to take over the reins after Harry Kane.
Bellingham’s versatility allows him to thrive as a box-to-box midfielder or in a no.10 role, where he has delivered standout performances throughout the season for Real Madrid.
In that same spot, England has several options to choose from. There’s Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and James Maddison, but, in contrast, Bellingham is the clear winner.
However, it would be interesting to see what combination England opts to play, but Bellingham needs to be there for England to lift silverware in Germany.
Official Odds for Euro!
The official odds are in for the Euro 2024 as FIFA World Cup 2022 runners-up France and England are the hot favorites to win in Germany this year.
While fans are on the lookout for tickets from vetted sellers, English fans specifically will be hoping the odds pay in favor of their team as they look for silverware after a long hiatus of four decades.
England and France Hot Favorites
The odds are out, and England is in a promising position, with the favorite tag shared alongside France at 7/2. The 2020 heartbreak was too much for the English fans to handle, but manager Gareth Southgate wants to make it right.
England wants to overcome its 58-year drought in Germany and win a major international trophy.
The draw, held in December 2023, set England in Group C with Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia. The group stage should be fine for the English as this should be an easy qualification into the Round of 16.
On the other hand, France will have a little competition with the side placed alongside the Netherlands. The Dutch were a forceful competitor in the concluded FIFA World Cup, and they should provide an exciting display of footballing action against the French.
Insights from the vetted sellers are that the demand for the France-Netherlands game remains the highest in the group-stage encounters.
Two teams from each group will proceed to the next, and France should be fine being one of the two.
Despite recent shaky performances, Germany follows closely in the betting at 6/1, with the side having the home advantage.
Scotland, who’ve made their second consecutive Euro, will have an uphill battle against the hosts Germany. Other teams in the groups are Hungary and Switzerland, but their odds are considered since they are tagged as outsiders at 80/1.
The toughest of the groups will be Group B, where it will have the defending Euro champions Italy and Spain, Croatia, and Albania. Spain is priced at 7/1 to win the tournament, while Italy, the current holders, have odds of 16/1 to retain their title and equal Spain and Germany with three Euro titles.
For Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal, the odds are at 8/1, while Belgium, a reckoning force in European football for the last decade, have a mix of 14/1.
Euro 2016 winners Portugal and Belgium are also in the mix at 8/1 and 14/1, respectively, rounding up the list of frontrunners for Euro 2024.
