REPORTS: Chelsea Meet £45m Asking Price For In-Demand Playmaker
Chelsea are said to be one of several clubs chasing Palermo playmaker Javier Pastore, and have even been named as the club who are willing to meet his £45m asking price.
The players agent confirmed that a mystery club is willing to meet the hefty £45 asking price, and some reports suggest that the club in question is Chelsea:
“It’s true, there is someone that wants him at that price,” Marcelo Simonin told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“This is the basis, hence, the price will absolutely not be lowered.
The Blues have been linked with a move for the creative midfielder and Palermo president Maurizio Zamperini admitted several clubs are interested:
“Pastore is a phenomenal player and there are three or four clubs interested in him,” said Zamperini. “I am a businessman and I will not lose my cool, but it is clear that clubs who want Pastore must have the economic power to submit a proposal.
“Chelsea are one of the clubs concerned, but we have to wait to see what Villas-Boas, the new coach, decides. The same goes for Juventus, although they are less interested than the English.
“Napoli have also called me to ask for Pastore. I would love him to stay in Italy, but it is very unlikely.”
The 21-year old is thought to be an alternative to Tottenham ace Luka Modric, but some reports suggest Modric is still Chelsea’s preferred option.
Villas-Boas appears to be in no rush in the transfer market and will assess his squad when they return to pre-season training on Wednesday.
