REPORTS: Coentrao Rejects Chelsea In Favour Of Real Madrid
Benfica left back Fabio Coentrao has rejected a chance to join Chelsea this summer and is holding out for a switch to Real Madrid, according to reports.
The attacking full back has been subject to a player plus cash deal from Chelsea, which has reportedly been accepted by the Portuguese outfit. Despite accepting the offer, Coentrao has rejected the move to the Premier League and appears to be holding out for a move to the Bernabeu.
Reports suggest Chelsea have offered Slobodan Rajkovic in exchange for the 22-year old. Rajkovic was the most expensive under 18 player when he was brought for £3.8m back in 2007 but has yet to make his debut for the Blues.
Rajkovic has found himself loaned out in Eredivisie for the last 4 years with spells with PSV, FC Twente and Vitesse respectively. Benfica’s director of sport Rui Costa accepts that their talented defender will move on this summer:
“Today Fabio Coentrao is Benfica’s, but of course he is coveted because of what he has done,” Costa told TVI.
“So far, Benfica has not received an offer which we know he wants.”
