[PLAYER RATINGS] Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool: How Did The Liverpool Players Rate?
Liverpool have secured their first 3 points of the season with a 2-0 victory against Arsenal at the Emirates. So here’s how I thought that they got on against the Gunners.
Liverpool FC Starting XI
Pepe Reina
The Liverpool number 25 had a relatively quiet afternoon in goal for the Reds, but still managed to save when called upon, most notably when he managed to save Robin Van Persie’s shot with his legs. He also brought security to the back 4, with a commanding performance from the Spaniard.
Player Rating: 7
Martin Kelly
Laid his case forward as the first choice rightback for Liverpool with a great attacking display from the Englishman. A matured display from the youngster as he was threatening going forward and he carried out his defensive duties relatively well as well.
Player Rating: 8
Jamie Carragher
Another dominant display from the veteran at the back. Nothing more can really sum up his performance.
Player Rating: 7
Daniel Agger
Apart from a mistimed tackle that gave Nasri an absolute peach of a chance, it was a good performance from the Dane. Like the rest of the defenders, carried out his defensive duties very well.
Player Rating: 7
Jose Enrique
Once again, Walcott was quietened by our leftback (first occasion Robinson didn’t give him anything to work with). A good display at the back and showed why he is a bargain at 5.5 million pounds.
Player Rating: 7
Charlie Adam
A cheeky attempt from halfway nearly led to an Alonso-esque goal from the Scot. Again, an absolute bulldozer in midfield and knocked the Arsenal midfielders around. Otherwise, he had a good game in th middle of the park.
Player Rating: 7
Lucas
Our ‘sweeping midfielder’ arguably was our best player prior to the arrival of Suarez and Meireles. Broke down Arsenal’s play well and limited their distribution. Great consistency from the Brazilian.
Player Rating: 8
Jordan Henderson
Showed promise in getting into good positions, but in all honesty, his touch was poor and was disappointing behind Carroll, although the lack of pace from Carroll might have made him change his game given that he can’t release the attacker.
Player Rating: 5
Dirk Kuyt
Swapped place with Downing on a few occasions, but he didn’t really provide with too many attacking opportunities, but he did well in stopping quick counter attacks on the wings from Arsenal, especially those started by the opposing fullbacks.
Player Rating: 6
Stewart Downing
Pace and width was what he provided for Liverpool and he had a better game out there compared to last week against Sunderland. The 4-3-3 formation probably helped him as he was very lively.
Player Rating: 8
Andy Carroll
Our poorest player on the pitch when he was expected to rise to the occasion and torment the Arsenal defence. Instead, Carroll disappointed and bar a header or two, was largely disappointing.
Player Rating: 4
Substitutes
Raul Meireles
The duo of him and Suarez coming on changed the game. Was involved in both of Liverpool’s goals and showed great selflessness to offer Suarez his second goal of the season on a plate.
Player Rating: 8
Luis Suarez
Immediately made an Aguero-esque impact on the game following his arrival. Did lots of damage to the Arsenal backline with his pace and ability. Deserved a goal for all his efforts.
