Wenger confirms he’s speaking with “definite transfer targets”
By Fab4.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he has ‘definite transfers targets’ and would like to get his business done before the World Cup begins. Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of players in recent weeks but Wenger claimed all transfer talk was wide of the mark.
However he has now admitted he has identified the players he wants and would like to get them on board quickly:
“I have definite transfer targets and I have been talking to people but I will not tell you to who,” he told the Arsenal Matchday Programme.
He went on: “I believe the earlier you settle your team the better it is and the less anxiety you have.”
Wenger will not be buying a player solely on his performance at the World Cup however “unless there is an exception there that nobody knew before”, as he feels prices are inflated and any one player can have a great three weeks, but performing consistently is another thing.
“Also post-World Cup the prices are always artificial.”
“Overall I feel it is very dangerous to buy on [the strength of] the tournament because sometimes there are players who are fresh and have not played the whole season. Everyone can have three weeks of glory as a football player. Ten years is a bit different.”
Arsene seems to be making all the right noises, but i think most Arsenal fans will agree we have heard this before. I recall him saying in December how he had identified his targets and wanted to get any deals completed quickly during the January window, and Arsenal fans were left waiting right up to the last minute of deadline day, with only Sol Campbell to show for it. Actions Mr Wenger, speak louder than words.
Do Arsenal fans think Arsene Wenger will buy the players they need this summer to end their trophy drought? Please leave your comments below…
