Watch out Arsenal fans…Wenger has started already!

FC BARCELONA PRESS CONFERENCE

By Fab4.

Watch out Arsenal fans, Arsene Wenger has got the record out and pushed ‘play’ early this year. Gooners must have become accustomed by now to the Arsene Wenger school of ‘summer transfer talk’. After a fruitless season he talks about making important ‘super, super’ signings that he knows the club needs, experience will be added, he knows his targets and intends to do his business early, etc, etc. Before we are left waiting right up until the last minute of the window, only to be disappointed by a lack of investment in the Arsenal squad.

Well this year Arsene has dusted off his record and got the Arsenal.com writers working over-time before the season has even finished. Only last week he talked about making 2-3 important signings. We all thought ‘great’. But today we heard the dreaded ‘internal’ word being used for the first time, which usually is Wenger’s way of subtly telling us he intends to stick with what he’s got due to existing players improving from the previous season and he believes in them. How long before we hear the ‘injured players returning to fitness are like new signings’ one?

Below is an article published today, with the writer focusing on Wenger saying he wants experienced players. But from past experience’s, I’m reading between the lines to take a different view on what his words might actually mean:

“We have plenty of young players,” said the 60-year-old. “If we bring some players in then they have to be experienced players.”

“I think we have been in the race this year with the team we had. We will be stronger next year just with the internal improvement and with the experience these players will have now. The additions will be minimal but if there are some they have to be really top class.”

How many times have we heard this before? The key words for me are ‘if’ and ‘internal’. It shouldn’t be ‘if’ Arsenal make signings, it should be when. There is no doubt we need new players, three at a minimum, so no more ‘if’ please Arsene. And the fact he says that additions will be ‘minimal’ worries me also. After the way we have capitulated this season, i had hoped Arsene had finally realised we needed 3-4 new players.

Then there is the ‘internal improvement’ rubbish. Yes some players will get better and learn,  but some wont and this is just your way of telling yourself the Arsenal squad will be good enough next year, thus convincing you not to buy. Plus players from other clubs will also improve from this year, so it means very little. Internal is one of Arsene Wenger’s favorite words. Who remembers the ‘we are confident we can find internal solutions’ line following Van Persies injury and subsequent lack of signing a striker in January? Arsenal’s ‘internal solutions’ are not good enough to compete in four competitions, so go and buy the players we need. Simple.

I hope I’m jumping the gun and the boss goes out and proves me wrong by signing a couple of experienced first team contenders, but I’m only talking from past experience here. I’v heard these words and seen how they predictably evolve throughout a transfer window for 4-5 years now, resulting in signings like Silvestre.

If he does follow his past philosophy and fail to bring in the players everyone knows we need to be serious contenders next year, Wenger will find himself under unparalleled pressure from Arsenal fans. Another barren year and know body will be relieved to hear your signing a new two year contract extension…believe me!

Spot on! Here we go again on the AW spin doctor journey of disappointment. Every single Arsenal supporter in the world can see what is needed, yet we all know what will happen. Window opens – eager fans watch Sky more than they do own kids/wife etc in the feint hope that today will be the day. Day after day, week after week, until that dreadful last day of the window and the will they, won’t they shite!

I never thought that I would type these words but here goes…Wenger needs to leave. Yes, he transformed us, yes we WERE brilliant and unbeaten, but let’s look at reality. SPURS are almost at our level – and if there were three more games they would be a comfortable 7 points better. I have to leave now as I need to find a bucket. I love Arsenal – but enough is enough!

    Here we go again!

I have a strong feeling that our “biggest” signing for the season 2010/2011 will be Chamakh and that’s it! The way we lost to ManU, Chelsea, Spuds & Barca and not fogetting the bullish game at Ewood park tells a lot about the quality of the team.

AW said he will buy b4 the World Cup..so if he doesn’t buy anyone by then, be rest assured that that he will not enter the Jan market at all. If this happens, let’s all brace ourselves for another trophyless season..

Honestly, before now, I was one of those who felt that having a rich dude buy the club and run things was the worst thing that can happen to the Gunners. That’s one side of the coin we have not seen…yet. The side of the coin we’ve had to live with honestly gives Wenger too much power, makes the Board a group of profit-only businessmen who care nothing for the PRIDE of the club as long as profits are recorded annually; who have never been honest with the fans about the state of the club’s finances and have blindly ‘trusted’ Wenger’s plans without demanding any results and putting any pressure on him to bring in at least a trophy; who lack the ‘spine’ to even disagree with a manager that explains away failure, rewards flops with bumper deals and rates his players better than everyone else! This side of the coin allows AW to continue a reign of mediocrity when we are told to be happy that we’ve qualified for the CL for 13 years on the roll, we’ve been in the top four, blah, blah, blah; this side of the coin rewards laziness, flopiaskis, diabiolic and babish displays! And its is set to continue unless something like a SHOCK THERAPY is applied. Perhaps we should pressure either Usmanov or Kroenke to take over from Wenger and his reign of TROPHYLESS TRIUMPHS for 5 seasons and still counting?

Yes, no word can describe my feeling precisely, but what I do know that arsenal can loss their fans because of stubborn wenger. May be its true that wenger has to go or the fans will go..

Sadly I believe its time to move mr wenger on. He should of spent £30m last summer then about £25-£30 this summer, but realisticly he needs to spend £50m this summer to compete ..

Arsene is not blameless for the end of season losses. He could have strengthened the squad where coverage was thin. I hope he buys a goalkeeper, centre back and defensive midfielder. Next season will be crucial for as a trophy will be needed. I think he has become an unlucky manager and a change of fortune would be welcome.

Wow, it seems u are not the only one “jumping the gun”, I just read on another website similar worries on this latest comment by AW…. Yup, AW’s “internal improvement” sound fishy!!!

You’ve just written my biggest fear.

We’ve heard the same story for too long now. The “young and oh-so-talented” group have been playing together for 5 years now. Yes, some of them can still improve, but is that enough? I don’t think so. “Next year” is Liverpool’s phrase. Not ours.

I have one memory that still haunts me. I believe it was the summer of 97. I waited and waited, and for what – Big John Lukic.

Chamack is a done deal. That’s great, I suppose. From what I’ve seen, he gives us extra power, strength, pace and height. We need that.

In my view we need more. Sell both Almunia and Fabianski. If we can’t get a top goalie, then use Mannone, I like him. If Gallas goes, then fuck off to him too. Campbell can stay for another year. Denilson isn’t good enough. He has a few good games during a season, but is not stable enough. Vela has proven again and again that he isn’t good enough for this league. I bet he will be a hit in Italy or in Spain. Eduardo seems to never recover fully from the injury. He needs to go.

I hope Wenger buys some quality players.

He is so easy to read these days,i told you the 2 or 3 players were a smokescreen.

    1. The club is running a business not a football club and using Wenger’s footballing philosophy to deceive the fans.
    2. Wenger desperately wants to prove his system is working and doesn’t want to destroy it by buying many known players. (infact the system is working but not enough to win any titles even wenger knows it but is it his ego stopping him from buying)
3.The club or company (in my view) is prioritizing its marketing ambitions than its footballing ambitions.

so during the last five years of business the company have achieve a lot but nothing for its customers (fans).
    players got their wages
    managers got their wages
    club have improved financially
WHAT ABOUT THE FANS WHO PAID FOR ALL OF THESE?????????????????????.

The squad is not adequate to deal with the number of long term injuries that we have every season. No other PL club suffers as many injuries as Arsenal do throughout the season – we lose a top player to injury on average in every match. Therefore our squad cannot afford all the mediocre players that Wenger has bought. Almunia,Senderos, Rosicky(he has lost all his ability) ,Eduardo(never been the same since that horrible injury), Gallas(always injured and is now too old), Vela,Walcott( all pace but no football brain),Denilson,Silvestre,Fabianski( the worst GK in the PL), Mannone, Eboue,Traore and Merida( too lightweight). The only players from our youth team ( who have won nothing this season) worth anything are Wilshere,Szczesny and (maybe) Eastmond. Chamakh is coming on a free but we need a top GK, 2 experienced CH’s and another defensive mid field player to cover for Song. Will it happen – of course not – Wenger is about to be offered a 3 years extension so do not expect any trophies for some time!

I know what you’re saying but I have a feeling that wenger does need to be careful. We still have a game to play and it’d be terrible to go spouting off about all the positions he’s planning on improving on this summer. Confidence has already dropped to an unacceptable low and the team seem to have given up for this season, so telling any of them that that’s it would be suicide.

I sure hope I’m not proved wrong!

Come on wenger, motivate this team to beat fulham and then cut loose on the deadwood and be stronger for next season.

    Mark
p.s if almunia’s between the sticks at the start of next season I’ll go spare.

I’m so happy to see this post from you as it confirms that I’m not a sad bitter Gooner who doesn’t really love Arsenal.

I made similar comments (as you have in your article) to my mates over the weekend and I went as far as telling them that Spurs will finish higher than us this season.

Which nobody wanted to hear and soon after left me on my todd but, as far as i’m concerned I DO love The Arsenal and have done for the past 36yrs.

    Wenger has been making these speeches like clockwork as follows;
Mid May – End of May – Mid July – End of July.

Big transfer talk comes spouting out to keep us all quiet and enjoy our summer holidays Thinking that all will be well in the camp cos Wenger said he’s ditched the policy and now going to spend but, then come 3 weeks before start of new season he then tells us about “I believe our current squad has gained more experience and we also have Bendtner & Denilson who don’t forget are both very young”.

Seeing Spurs reach dizzy heights last night really confirmed that Arsenal are no longer a Club to be feared and that our manager isn’t in touch with reality.

His continuous backing of two of the worse Goal Keepers in the EPL (Almunia & Fabianski) makes me believe it’s time for Wenger to leave Arsenal before he damages the club even further. He has also become an embarrassment on the touch line complaining like a fool at every challenge on a Arsenal player.

He told us that Gilberto was now too old to extend a contract then he signs Sivestre who was injured. Our best signing was Super Sol.

It’s going to get much worse if he stays at our club.

When are we going to all wake up and see whats going on with our club, The board are just using Arsene to get young players to come to arsenal, They come here because they know arsene will turn them into household names they can sell later to clear the dept we have for the stadium. Arsene is not going to be here in the next 2 or 3 years so they are not going to spend a fortune on older players if they can use him to get players on the cheap, when Wenger goes the youth income will slow right down and the board will have to relly on the stadium tv income and what other manager do you know like Arsene that can do what he does? moran-io just buys, the fat waiter just buys fergie does find young players but spends crazy money on average players in the last few years we have sold henry, viera, hleb, ade, toure, just a few and good money coming in . After all the players were sold the board stated we have money to buy but why haggle over 2m for arshavin and make the club look like fools if we have money? the truth is we are paying off the stadium as fast as we can first and when wenger leaves us eventully the next manager will have spending power!! but true thats no good if we have no champions league or trying for the prem so our choice is this get off Wengers back and help him that way he will stay longer with a fair chance of winning something or get rid off the lot board, wenger and sell up to the highest billionaire bidder that way we can compeat with chelski and the manckers and buy overpriced players that aint much better than we got now. Its true Arsene has made mistakes like flamini going for free when he wanted to have a pay rise and never replaceing him and then giving silvester 65k a week ???????? i can see the same thing happening with gallas he wants a two year deal or he is off for free and we replace him with a average 6m player on 35k a week that needs two years to settle in. But Wenger must have his hands tied he must have!! or why put up with all the players not up to the job bendtner, dennilson, diaby and almunia ect they are good players but not 1st team arsenal players he does need to get a mean streak in him and get rid of these players but i just think he trully belives in them and they are letting him down and other teams have found them out ?? I here everyone moaning about Arsene not the board we have to back him and bring out the truth, He is the greatest manager we have ever had and is in danger of all he has done for us being thrown away and fogotten over a board too scared to come out and just say it like it is because i am sure they know we would turn our anger at them instead
