Redknapp – Striker Can Leave

By on October 21, 2011

Harry Redknapp is considering allowing Roman Pavlyuchenko to leave White Hart Lane in January.

The Tottenham striker has struggled for first-team appearances this season and currently finds himself behind Emmanuel Adebayor, Jermain Defoe and Rafael Van der Vaart in the pecking order.

Having started just four games this season, including a goal-scoring start last night, a January exit is on the cards with a number of Russian teams keen to bring the 29-year-old back to Eastern Europe.

And Redknapp admits he won’t force the Russian striker out the door but would allow him to move on should the right offer come in.

“If he wanted to go and it was a good offer, then we would look at that, for sure,” he said.

“He’s not a player that I’m looking to move. I like him. He’s a good person, good player. I hope he can have a good season.”

Consistency has often been a problem for Pavlyuchenko in recent months and Redknapp has challenged him to find the back of the net on a regular basis in order to force himself in the starting XI.

“He has to work hard every game. He has to be more consistent,” he added.

“He didn’t have a great pre-season. He hasn’t shown enough this year to be in the team.

“He can score goals, and maybe if he goes on a run, gets an opportunity and score some goals for us.”
