Tottenham have announced that Luka Modric has committed his future to the North London club with a six year contract renewal. The young Croatian had been attracting the interest of big boys Manchester United and Chelsea.

Modric was integral in helping Spurs reach their dream of a top four finish and his commitment will come as a great relief for the club. With Tottenham preparing for their first Champions League campaign; it was imperative that the club held onto their key players.

The new contract will see Modric remain at the club until 2016. Speaking to the clubs website, Modric told of his desire to remain at the club and his ambitions for the future.

“Tottenham Hotspur gave me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them. Yes, there have been enquiries from other big clubs, but I have no interest in going anywhere. Last season’s Top 4 finish was an indication of where we are as a Club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want to at Spurs.”

Modric struggled in his first season in England, with former manager Juande Ramos playing him in an unfamiliar deep role. Since Redknapp took over, however, the young star has excelled and established himself as one of the clubs most important players.
