Wenger – Arsenal Won’t Buy A Centre Back

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ruled out signing a centre back in the January transfer window.

The Gunners have been linked with January moves for Chelsea’s transfer listed defender Alex, while it’s also been suggested Wenger is still interested in Bolton’s Gary Cahill having tried to sign the England stopper in the summer.

However, the Frenchman signed German giant Per Mertesacker on transfer deadline day and Laurent Koscielny has made great strides this season, while Thomas Vermaelen is also back to full fitness this season, so Wenger feels he’s more than covered at the heart of his defence.

When asked about his reported interest in Alex, Wenger said:

“We will not be on the market for any centre-back, I can assure you,”
