Horne: FA To Wait Until End Of Season To Appoint New England Boss
The FA have confirmed today that they will not be announcing the next England manager until towards the end of the season, with Harry Redknapp still favourite
The FA have confirmed today that they will not be announcing the next England manager until towards the end of the season, according to Sky Sports News.
FA General secretary Alex Horne confirmed they put together a list of managers they would consider to replace Fabio Capello, but many of those names are currently in employment, so Horne feels it would be unfair to disrupt the clubs by discussing the matter mid-season.
Speaking ahead of today’s international FA Board meeting in Bagshot, Horne told Sky Sports News:
“We’ve got a list. Long, short…. there’s definitely a list. It’s a back-end-of-the-season decision for us.
“We recognise that a lot of the managers on the list are employed and we don’t want to interrupt anyone’s season.
“We’re not rushing this and we are expecting something at the back end of the season.”
Horne was then asked if they would be prepared to wait until just before the Euro’s to make the appointment, and he was in no doubt that was a possibility. he continued:
“That’s perfectly realistic,” said Horne. “We’ve got all of our operational plans in place. We can deliver a squad into Poland so it is perfectly possible.”
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is still the bookies favourite, and the overwhelming choice for fans and pundits alike, but it seems we have a few months left before we hear any official announcement on who the next England boss will be and who will lead the country in to this summers European Championships.
