Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign Lazio duo Hernanes and Miroslav Klose during the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports News.
Reports in Italy claim that Spurs offered to pay the Serie A outfit €15million for Brazilian midfielder Hernanes, but the deal broke down after the player turned down the move.
Hernanes’ agent Joseph Lee insists the 27-year-old is happy in Rome and has been assured of his importance to Lazio following discussions with club president Claudio Lotito.
“I met president Lotito at Villa San Sebastiano. We talked about today, and also about the future,”
“Lotito has confirmed to me that Hernanes is a very important player for Lazio, but I would not to enter into the details of our discussions.
“Extending the contract? Hernanes has an agreement that ties him to SS Lazio until 2015 so there is still time.”

Tottenham are also said to have missed out on prolific German striker Klose, with the 34-year-old claiming he rejected the chance of a move to White Hart Lane in order to see out the remaining two years of his contract with Lazio.
“Tottenham came looking for me, but I signed for Lazio until 2014 and I intend to respect that contract,”

Andre Villas-Boas was desperate to add to his front-line in the summer and eventually secured a permanent deal for Emmanuel Adebayor and signed Clint Dempsey from Fulham in the final hours on transfer deadline day.
