AVB Provides Update On Dembele Injury
Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has provided an update on the injury that forced Moussa Dembele to miss Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Chelsea at the Lane
Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has provided an update on the injury that forced Moussa Dembele’s to miss Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Chelsea.
The Portuguese boss hopes he won’t be without his key midfielder for too long after revealing the 25-year-old aggravated a long-term hip problem while on international duty last week.
Dembele was sidelined for Fulham last season with the hip complaint and was forced off at half-time during Belgium’s 2-0 win over Scotland last Tuesday suffering a recurrence of the old injury.
Dembele completed a £15m move to Spurs in the summer and has already established himself as an important first team player at White Hart Lane. The former Fulham man was a huge miss during Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Chelsea but boss AVB is hopeful he won’t be out for too long.
Villas-Boas is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail:
‘He [Dembele] had a scan, but we haven’t seen the results yet. He suffers discomfort and pain on his hip which is not something that shows on the scan so it’s difficult to assess.
‘Fulham took him off for a period of two weeks. He had a chance to play (on Saturday) and had a late fitness test but the pain didn’t go away.
‘It’s something that comes back to him. He fell awkwardly in the Scotland game against Belgium and felt the pain.’
