Liverpool Transfer News: Rodgers To Finally Land Prolific Striker?
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is ready to launch a £6m bid for Schalke contract rebel Klaas-Jan Huntelaar when the transfer window re-opens this January.
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Liverpool line-up Huntelaar.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to launch a £6m January bid for Schalke contract rebel Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, according to the Mirror.
The Dutch striker is in the final year of his contract at the Bundesliga outfit and has so far been unable to agree terms over an extension. Talks have been delayed until later this month when Schalke are expected to put forward their final offer in a last-ditch attempt to persuade the 29-year-old to stay.
However, Huntelaar is expected to reject their offer and when he does, Schalke are likely to listen to offers in January to avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to add to his strike-force when the window re-opens and has drawn up a short-list of targets, with Huntelaar high on his list of priorities.
Rodgers is adamant he will have funds available to strengthen his squad and wants to test Schalke’s resolve with a £6m bid for Huntelaar.
However, the Northern Irishman may have to persuade his Anfield bosses that signing the 29-year-old is a sound move, as he will have little sell-on value and doesn’t fit the owners age profile for new signings. But Rodgers will argue that Huntelaar will add a huge amount of experience to the Reds squad as well as a proven goal-scoring threat, and is a relative bargain at around £6m.

It remains to be seen whether the player would move to Liverpool though, as he’s believed to want a move to a club who can offer champions league football. But despite their recent woes, Liverpool still remain an attractive proposition due to their illustrious history and Rodgers is confident he can convince the Dutch hitman to buy into his Anfield project.
