Wenger Holds Talks With Young Striker Over Summer Move To Arsenal
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is understood to have been in France to hold talks with Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo over a potential free transfer to the Emirates.
Despite the transfer window now being closed it has still been a newsworthy month for football fans with plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are linked with Yaya Sanogo.
Is Arsene Wenger on the look out for the ‘next Nicolas Anelka’? Well he just might be with talkSPORT one of several news outlets who’re reporting that the boss has been in France recently to hold talks with Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo.
The report claims Arsene Wenger and French scout Gilles Grimandi travelled to France to speak with the 20-year-old’s representatives over a potential free transfer move to the Emirates this summer.
Sanogo currently plays for Ligue 2 outfit Auxerre and after being sidelined for 18 months with a broken leg, he’s enjoying an impressive run of form of late that has seen him score four goals against Laval before bagging another hat-trick just days later against Tours.
However, his contract is due to expire in the summer and with no signs of an extensions being signed he is free to talk with foreign clubs, and talkSPORT suggest Arsenal are now in pole position to sign him ahead of clubs from Italy, German and France.

Sanogo is a 6ft 3in striker who certainly knows where the goal is and possesses a decent touch for a big man, as you can see from the terrific goal he scored for the France under-21’s versus England in the video below. While the goalkeeping may be questionable, there’s no denying it was a wonderful piece of skill.
However, talented as Sanogo may be, if we’re going to be signing a striker this summer I’d prefer the boss concentrated on a more established name instead of another freebie from France. The last one didn’t work out too well if I remember correctly (Chamakh).
Bring this lad in as one for the future by all means, but we also need to spend some serious cash on a proven goal-scorer, as well as another goalkeeper, dominant centre-back and defensive midfielder! But for now, enjoy Sanogo in action.
